Last Updated: October 14, 2026
TheTravelCommunity ("we", "our", "us", or the "App") is a travel and motorcycle ride companion discovery platform that helps users discover journeys, connect with fellow travelers, request to join trips, and coordinate through trip-based group chats.
This Privacy Policy explains how information may be collected, used, stored, disclosed, and deleted when you use TheTravelCommunity. By using the App, you acknowledge this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account and Authentication Information
Depending on the sign-in method you choose, we may process:
- Email address and authentication-related information.
- Phone number used for phone-based verification.
- Google account information made available during Google Sign-In, such as your name, email address, and profile image.
- Firebase user identifiers and account status.
1.2 Profile Information
You may provide information such as your display name, biography, city, profile photograph, motorcycle or other vehicle details, engine capacity, and riding experience.
Information included in your profile may be visible to other users according to the App's functionality and access controls.
1.3 Trip and Journey Information
When creating, discovering, or joining trips, we may process:
- Trip origin, destination, departure date, and departure time.
- Route information, route geometry, and estimated directions.
- Meeting points and associated map coordinates.
- Vehicle details, available seats, and trip status.
- Join requests, approval decisions, and participation records.
Trip information is used to display journeys and coordinate participation. Other users may see relevant trip information depending on the trip's visibility and their membership status.
1.4 Location Information
If you grant location permission and use a feature that requires it, the App may access a single foreground location fix to support location-related functionality.
The App may also process locations you explicitly select or submit, such as trip origins, destinations, or meeting points. These user-selected locations are distinct from your device's current location.
We do not intend to continuously track your device in the background. Please review Android's permission prompts and your device settings to understand and control location access.
1.5 Messages and User-Generated Content
We may process messages, system-generated trip notifications, profile content, uploaded photographs, attachments, and other information you submit through the App, where those features are available.
Messages in a trip group may be accessible to authorized members of that group. Do not share sensitive personal information in group chats.
1.6 Notifications and Device Information
The App may process Firebase Cloud Messaging registration tokens, device identifiers used for notification delivery, notification preferences, and delivery-related information to provide push notifications.
1.7 Diagnostics, Analytics, and Security Information
Depending on the SDKs enabled in the released version of the App, technical information may be processed for app reliability, security, performance monitoring, and usage analytics. This may include crash reports, diagnostic logs, app events, device and app information, and app integrity signals.
Such processing may involve Firebase Crashlytics, Google Analytics, Firebase App Check, or related services if enabled in the deployed application.
2. How We Use Information
We may use information for the following purposes:
- Create and maintain your account and profile.
- Authenticate users and protect account access.
- Allow users to create, search, discover, and manage trips.
- Process trip join requests and host approval decisions.
- Coordinate participants through trip group chats.
- Display maps, search public places, and calculate routes.
- Deliver relevant trip and account notifications.
- Handle user reports, blocking, and safety-related actions.
- Detect abuse, unauthorized activity, and security issues.
- Diagnose crashes, troubleshoot errors, and improve reliability.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations.
3. Legal Bases and Consent
Where applicable law requires a legal basis for processing, we process information as necessary to provide requested services, with your consent where required, for legitimate purposes such as security and service improvement, or to comply with legal obligations.
Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw that consent through the applicable device settings or available App controls. Withdrawal does not affect processing lawfully completed before consent was withdrawn.
4. How Information Is Shared
4.1 With Other Users
Depending on the feature and access permissions, other users may see your profile details, trip listings, selected meeting points, participation information, join requests, and messages shared within a trip group.
We aim to keep phone numbers, authentication credentials, private account metadata, and precise home addresses from being publicly exposed through ordinary profile and trip discovery features.
4.2 Service Providers
We may share or allow processing of relevant information by third-party service providers that help operate the App, including:
- Google Firebase: authentication, database, file storage, push notifications, app integrity, and diagnostics where the relevant services are enabled.
- Google Maps Platform: maps, public-place search, and route calculation where requested by the user.
- Google Sign-In: authentication when you choose to sign in using your Google account.
The exact information processed depends on the services enabled in the released version of the App and the features you use. These providers may process information under their own privacy terms and applicable agreements.
4.3 Legal and Safety Disclosures
We may disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, respond to lawful requests, protect users, investigate suspected abuse, enforce our policies, or protect the rights and security of the App and its users.
4.4 Business Transfers
If the operation of the App is involved in a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or transfer of assets, relevant information may be transferred subject to applicable privacy and legal requirements.
5. Google Maps and Third-Party Services
The App may use Google Maps Platform services to display maps, search public places, and calculate travel routes. Information necessary to fulfil a map or route request may be processed by Google in accordance with the applicable Google terms and privacy policies.

6. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the App's services, maintain trip participation records, protect user safety, resolve disputes, enforce our policies, and meet applicable legal requirements.
Certain in-app notifications may be configured for automatic deletion after 90 days. Actual retention depends on the deployed database configuration and applicable operational requirements.
When information is no longer required, we aim to delete it, anonymize it, or otherwise handle it in accordance with applicable law and our retention practices.
7. Account Deletion and Your Choices
You may request deletion of your account using the account deletion functionality provided in the App, where available.
When an account deletion request is processed, we intend to delete or anonymize associated information in accordance with the deletion workflow, including relevant profile and authentication records. Active hosted trips may be cancelled, and participation records may be updated as necessary.
Some information may be retained where required or permitted by law, for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or enforcement purposes. If certain group messages or records are retained in anonymized form, identifying information will be removed where technically feasible.
Uninstalling the App does not, by itself, delete your account or information stored on our servers.
If account deletion is unavailable or you need assistance, contact us using the email address provided at the end of this policy.
8. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
These measures may include authentication controls, database and storage security rules, server-side authorization, app integrity checks, and restricted access to sensitive backend operations.
No internet-based service or electronic storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users should also protect their devices and account credentials.
9. User Safety, Blocking, and Reporting
The App may allow users to block other users and submit reports about profiles, messages, or inappropriate behaviour. We may process reports and related information to investigate safety concerns, prevent misuse, and take appropriate action.
Do not share passwords, authentication codes, financial details, or other sensitive information with other travelers. Exercise caution when arranging in-person meetings or trips with people you have not previously met.
10. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under the minimum age permitted by applicable law to use the service independently. Users must meet the applicable age requirements to create an account and use the App.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children where such collection is prohibited by applicable law. If you believe a child has provided personal information in violation of these requirements, please contact us so that we can review the matter and take appropriate action.
11. International Data Processing
Our service providers may process or store information on infrastructure located in countries other than your own. Where required, appropriate safeguards will be applied to international transfers in accordance with applicable law.
12. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your personal information. You may also have rights to object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent, or lodge a complaint with a competent authority.
You may exercise available rights through the App's settings or by contacting us. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our features, service providers, data practices, or legal requirements change. The updated policy will be published at the same public URL, with the revised date shown at the top.
